I’m Sonisa from Cambodia, one of the oldest countries in Southeast Asia. I grew up in a family of tailors. My grandma, mom, and aunties turned fabric into beautiful craft, and their work became my earliest inspiration. I spent my childhood surrounded by creativity, which led me to explore design. I first studied interior design, drawn to the idea of creating aesthetic space, but eventually found my passion in visual storytelling and earned a Bachelor’s in Visual Communication at Phnom Penh University of the Arts. Over the past seven years, I have worked in advertising as an Art Director, co-developing thematic and tactical campaigns for various brands in Cambodia. While I’ve loved working in this fast-paced industry, I’ve always wondered how creativity could extend beyond communication, to truly support and care for people. That’s why I’m looking forward to the Response_Able Futures programme because it feels like the perfect opportunity to explore how design can contribute to care and mental well-being in more meaningful ways. Painting with acrylics has always been my outlet to process emotions and challenges I’ve faced, which led me to visually tell stories about femininity and resilience. It has also sparked my curiosity about how design can address mental health and create comfort in uncertain times. In my free time, I enjoy painting, traveling for inspiration, cafe hopping, browsing through supermarket aisle scanning the label design, and I’m obsessed with museums.
